As did millions of Americans, and maybe billions around the world, I watched the Inauguration of our new President, Barack Obama, yesterday. I couldn't help but think how far our nation has come. My father shared the story of when he was in the military, in his early twenties, he and an African American friend of his walked into a restaurant to get lunch. The owner refused to serve his friend, and my father responded, "If you're not going to serve him, you're not going to serve me either!" That was fifty years ago. African Americans have gone from the back of the bus to the Oval Office. That is truly historic, and should be a sense of national pride for all of us.
